Cookies for Kids' Cancer™ was created by Gretchen and Larry Witt in an effort to do all they could to save their son. After absorbing the fact that an aggressive form of cancer called neuroblastoma was attacking their son Liam’s two-and-a-half-year-old body, they soon learned that in the U.S., cancer claims the lives of more children under age 18 than any other disease1. Their doctors said that part of the reason why is because not enough money is being spent on pediatric cancer research.

Since the day of Liam's diagnosis on February 26, 2007, the Witts have pledged together to make it a priority to contribute to the development of new and better treatments for children.

Glad to Give Cookies for Kids Cancer
How It Got Started
Cookies for Kids' Cancer™ started as a passionate idea for a larger-than-life bake sale to raise money for pediatric cancer research. In an effort initiated by Liam's parents, dozens of families whose children were also battling cancer got involved and began to take orders for cookies from friends, co-workers and neighbors. More than 96,000 cookies were sold in three weeks with the assistance of more than 250 volunteers. The event raised more than $400,000 and captured the hearts – and tummies – of people nationwide. As emails and letters asking "what can we do to help?" poured in, it became clear that children's cancer is a universal fight.
How It Works
Cookies for Kids' Cancer™ is dedicated to raising funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer. Through the concept of local bake sales, Cookies for Kids' Cancer™ provides the inspiration and support for individuals, communities and businesses to help fight pediatric cancer.

It's a powerful model to fight all pediatric cancers. Like all bake sales, a Cookies for Kids' Cancer™ bake sale starts as a way to collect a simple donation in exchange for a cookie or other baked good. Through the simple concept of holding a bake sale under the banner of Cookies for Kids' Cancer™, individuals, schools, churches, synagogues, clubs and businesses have the ability to raise thousands of dollars and directly support research at Comprehensive Cancer Centers across the country.
Statistics On Pediatric Cancer
  • There has not been a new drug developed specifically for pediatric cancer treatment in nearly 20 years2
  • The treatments most children receive today were created for adults and have not been proven truly safe for children3
  • If children survive the initial treatments, they are often left with other life threatening conditions from the aggressive treatments intended to save them4
  • The unfortunate reality is that progress has all but stalled and survival rates lag behind most adult cancers.5
